Yes I think computers are intelligent because they can
store, retrieve and process information however there are multiple layers of
intelligence such as emotional intelligence that computers lack. The computer
is only as smart as we can code it to be. In order to pass the Turning test,
and make someone believe that they are speaking with a person rather than the
computer, human error should be included such as spelling mistakes and doubt,
also with better associations, more vocabulary trees, better problem solving etc.
I believe one day a machine will pass the Turning test, actually I may know
some people who may fail to identify that they are talking to a computer if the conversation was somewhat limited... The
machine can only be as clever as it is programed by man to be. The more
“intelligent” the more associations (groups, and sub groups) it can make ( more
human like).
It seems almost impossible to be
able to code every possible situation into the computer that humans encounter
everyday in order for it to act correctly in society...
As of today, machines are better at
searching and computing than they are at “thinking” and figuring out what it is
that we really meant by such and such.
I think that machines cannot really think like a human or is intelligent
as long as humans can tell the difference.
*Machines also lack consciousness. It also doesn’t have
basic needs to guide its behavior.
